Welcome to the Counseling Office

​As a parent, you know how important it is for all students to graduate high school with the knowledge, experiences, and skills to prepare them to enter college, technical training, or the workplace.  Beginning with the Class of 2011, all students will be required to complete the Michigan Merit high school graduation requirements.​

​In today's global economy, it is critical our students receive the high school education they need to be successful in college and the workplace.  To provide students with a 21st century education, Michigan passed new state high school graduation requirements commonly referred to as the Michigan Merit Curriculum.  For a detailed listing of Michigan Merit high school graduation requirements, visit www.mi.gov/highschool.

Michigan Merit Examination  (MME)

​​​​​​The Michigan Merit Examination is the state assessment administered to all students enrolled in grade 11 in March of each year.  The MME consists of three major components: the ACT college entrance examination, the WorkKeys job skills assessments in reading and mathematics, and Michigan assessments in mathematics, science, social studies, and persuasive writing.  The combined MME assessment measures student learning in the Michigan high school standards, benchmarks, and core content expectations.​

FAFSA

Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by March 1 for the upcoming academic year.  Apply online at http://fafsa.ed.gov or pick up a form in the Career Office.​

Dual Enrollment

Students are eligible to take college classes if they qualify through the PLAN, ACT, PSAT, MME, or the COMPASS tests and meet the college admittance requirements.  Students must meet the reading testing standards for subject areas not covered by the qualifying test. 

Tuition and fees only will be paid for by the local school district - not to exceed the state portion of the student's foundation allowance, adjusted to the proportion of the school year he/she attends the post-secondary institution.  Successful completion of the college class will earn the student college and high school credit at the same time.  Interested students should discuss the matter with the counselor thoroughly to secure pre-approval.  Students will be required to provide their own transportation to and from the class site since this is a voluntary admittance program.
